Fire Prevention

Guarding your home against brush fires is a major concern for any home owner. Drought or extreme dry conditions are major factors in contributing to brush fires that may cause property damage. The lack of rain throughout the state of Florida during the past few years has caused lower than normal water tables. This considerably raises the risk of flash fires due to dry vegetation. Fortunately, there are simple steps that homeowners can follow to minimize the overall risk of fires.

Many fire preventative measures can be included in our maintenance program (Lawn & Landscape Maintenance).  Regular maintenance of your lawn and landscape can reduce fire hazards around your home. Controlling and removing tall dry grass, dead leaves, branches, pine needles and other dead vegetation are a few ways to protect your home. If your lawn becomes overgrown with grass or covered with dead leaves, it can provide a direct fire path to your home. With our maintenance program you can rest assured that your lawn will be maintained to local & horticultural standards. We offer many maintenance packages, from Lawn Mowing, String Trimming, Edging and Blowing, to Shrub and Tree Trimming, Shaping, Thinning, Raising Canopy and Removal of Vegetation Debris.

Some things to look for around your home to reduce fire risk:

  • Leaves on the roof and/or in the gutters should be removed as they are not ignited by flying embers.
  • Branches overhanging the roof of your home should be removed to eliminate/minimize the risk of fire ladder.
  • Always be sure to dispose of vegetation debris according to local regulations.
  • Ensure to keep easy burning items at least 30 feet away from your home. (Example: firewood, lumber, compost, fuel/igniters,  dead & dense vegetation)
